Ugandan green coffee
Uganda is an important African coffee origin, producing both Robusta and highland Arabica. The green coffee offered by Behta Benis is especially relevant to roasters seeking body, balanced bitterness and a distinctive origin for espresso blends. Ask for the specifications of the available lot before ordering.
Ugandan Robusta
Ugandan Robusta is known for a strong, oily body, generous crema and relatively restrained acidity. Depending on the lot and roast, its cup may show cocoa, nuts and earthy notes with more natural sweetness than some other Robusta origins. These qualities make it useful for espresso and commercial blends.
- Body: heavy and persistent.
- Bitterness: pronounced but can be balanced with careful roasting.
- Acidity: generally low to moderate.
- Use: espresso blends, strong coffee and instant coffee.
Growing conditions and grades
Robusta is grown in Uganda’s tropical conditions, often at roughly 900–1,200 meters above sea level. Screen size and grade vary by lot. Common trade grades include SC 18, SC 17, SC 15–16 and UG Anx; they differ in bean size, uniformity and intended use. Confirm the lot’s moisture, defect count and sample roast before purchasing.
Ugandan Arabica
Arabica also grows in elevated areas such as Mount Elgon and the Rwenzori Mountains. Compared with Robusta, it can show brighter acidity and fruit or floral notes. Washed and natural processing produce different profiles, so origin and processing should be assessed for each shipment.
Roasting and blending
Ugandan Robusta can add crema, caffeine and weight to an Arabica blend. Begin with a sample roast, then adjust the proportion according to the desired aroma, strength and cost. Behta Benis can help you compare available lots and request a wholesale quote.
